Standing Free

Standing Free is the funny, emotional, at times downright bizarre but always enthralling autobiography of 1980s and 90s Aberdeen FC cult hero Theo ten Caat.

Written with Nick Brown, author of the widely acclaimed Former Glories and New Beginnings: Aberdeen FC, 2022/23.

Theo’s time at Aberdeen was certainly eventful, with the manager who signed him sacked little more than six months after his arrival. Told in Theo’s own words, this is the story not only of his time at Pittodrie but his colourful career in his homeland, too.Which international superstar did Theo almost come to blows with in a so-called friendly match? What was his relationship really like with Willie Miller?Which club owner managed to transfer a player he didn’t even own?Who refused to postpone a game even though one of the players had just died? How does Theo feel about the game today, and how does it compare with his own playing days?

All is revealed in this no-punches-pulled chronicle of Theo’s career, both in Scotland and Holland. A must-read for every Aberdeen fan!
