Traversing the Silk Road in the fourth century ce, Kumarajiva, the son of a Kashmiri Buddhist teacher and a Chinese Princess, radically transformed the history of Buddhism and East Asian culture by translating Buddhist scriptures from Sanskrit and Pali into Chinese.
