Opportunities and Challenges in Digital Policing

The field of policing is undergoing drastic changes due to the rapid development of digital technologies. This book brings together five chapters that explore various opportunities and challenges law enforcement is facing in the digital age. From the use of artificial intelligence transcription tools in investigative interviews to the ethical dilemmas posed by new surveillance mandates, the authors offer a critical and timely examination of how digital tools are reshaping the practice, culture, and governance of policing. The aim of the PDS-network and of the PDS Yearbooks is to address and discuss critical policing issues, drawing on both theoretical and practical perspectives. This volume is the result of the 2025 Policing in the Digital Society Network conference at Northumbria University in Newcastle, United Kingdom. This volume provides the police, as well as institutions for academic and police education, with insights into the latest developments and legal and ethical issues in modern policing.
